Healing Handcrafting

exploring process and healing through fiber arts and handcrafting

Therapeutic Weaving

Weaving on simple frame looms lends itself to contemplation and self-inquiry. Everything from choosing colors, textures, materials and shape are part of the process of creating a woven piece that is entirely unique and meaningful for the creator. I use this medium in several ways in my work with people. I’ll list them below:

~ Weaving a Life Series: I had the great pleasure of working with and learning from Susan Barrett Merrill, who created the Weaving a Life series. These are a series of seven woven projects completed on a simple frame loom. The weaver is invited to deeply reflect on what they are working through at any given time, while they create something beautiful and imbued with meaning. As a certified Weaving a Life leader, I will take the weaver through these projects in a personal and individually relevant way.

~ Individualized Projects: I also help individuals design unique projects that are specific to a given longing, process, or developmental stage. The project is born from conversation, exploration and inquiry that shapes the weaving itself. We can decide together how the process will unfold and make a plan from there.

~ Weaving with Teens: individuals or small groups are encouraged to engage in weaving to process and document their journey through what is for many a turbulent and confusing time in life. I deeply believe that all people, regardless of age, benefit from engaging in some kind of handcraft. Younger people who are growing up in a world dominated by technology need to experience just being and seeing what their hands can make, without being witnessed at all times by the wider world.

Things to know:

This is not a one-size-fits-all process.

No former weaving experience is necessary.

Experienced weavers will feel right at home.

There are never times when it doesn’t make sense to connect with yourself and the journey you are on.

In-person and remote options are available.
